Christmas '06
Well, our Christmas trip started out with a bang - literally. We headed up to Pittsburgh on Dec 22, and 1 1/2 hours into our trip, just outside Cincinnati, we were involved in a four car accident. Well, we were the only car...the traffic stopped really fast, and we stopped in time before hitting the minivan in front of us, but the truck behind us didn't stop in time. And then the semi behind them didn't stop in time. The first hit we were expecting, but the second one we weren't. I think after the first hit I turned around to make sure Zach was okay, so my neck is kind of jacked up. Conidering it was on a three lane freeway, we were very fortunate. Save for some pretty sore necks we are all okay, though. Zach started screaming after we got hit (a good sign, they told us) and then was very docile - probably scared the crap out of him. We took him to the hospital just to make sure he wasn't injured. 'Course then we had to spend some serious time there waiting to be seen, the rental car to pick Jason up, and for him to go buy a new car seat. So, 5 1/2 hours later we continued our trek.
That's what Zachary has to say about that.

If Zach is eating and not smiling, he likes to get his hands involved. He's not strong enough yet to hold the bottle, but it's fun to play with him.
We stayed at my Gram's house, and Zach slept in his bouncer for most of the nights. He kicks so much that it's hard to keep him covered. That's not such a big deal in our 75 degree apartment, but everywhere else it can lend to some cold fingers and toes. So we would swaddle him in one blanket, then in a second.
Leave it to Paul to teach Zach some crazy faces. I've actually already been trying to teach him to curl his tongue. He can do it, but not yet on command.
This is my Grammie with Zach. She's got like a bazillion grandkids and great-grandkids, and she said that Zach was the best baby she'd ever seen :).
This is unfortunately not a very good picture of my Aunt Tina - she's much prettier than this picture shows...but it was the only one we managed to get. Zach was stressing out and we needed to get him to bed.
We spent some time hanging out at my Grammie's house - a lot of people try to congregate at her house, especially on Christmas Eve. She usually makes roast beef, and then we sing Christmas carols and have a birthday cake for Jesus (including the birthday song).

Bethany, Rebekah and Ben are three of Aunt Tina's kids. Uncle Bill and Joel could only make it for Christmas morning, so we didn't get to see them. Her kids got tall though!! And pretty smart - we had some fun with word scrambles.

As much fun as it was to wrap up presents for Zachary, it was a little anticlimactic to open them - he couldn't have cared less. We opened his presents at Maggie's dad's house on Christmas night.
Paul and Maggie got us our huge pot for Christmas - and Zach is just the right size to fit in it! It was totally cute.
Whenever we go to Charlie's house we always light a fire, and Maggie's brother Mike uses some of his color pine cones. They are really cool, and burn all different colors. For some reason we had some serious issues with lighting at his house - the camera didn't really know what to do.
How cute is this??
As much as Zach takes his naps on the bed, sometimes we can't just help but hold him when he falls asleep.
Zach is Gram's first grandbaby, so it was nice to have her spend some time with him. On a totally different note, man can that woman cook! She always makes the most tasty things.
We actually got to hang out with Aunt Rosie and Uncle Tab for a little bit. This is me with Rosie, Gram, Rosie's daughter Lauren, and Maggie.

Paul is always bugging me at Thanksgiving to bring some pictures - so for Christmas I did. Apparently he thought I had a shoe box. He was a little surprised when I came with a huge box.
In like ten years we can take a picture of us looking at this picture looking at pictures! :)
This is after we got home. Zach actually got to watch the one game that the Steelers won this season - against Cincinnati. He loves to watch the tv, so every now and then we'll sit him in front of it. He was kicking up a storm that day.
Aunt Rosie and Uncle Tab got him this bunny - it was so cute when he started eating it! By the time he was done with it, the tail was soaked - it fit the best in his mouth. He loves to play with it - it's big enough for him to manipulate, but not too heavy.
Zach loves all the lights on the Christmas tree, and sometimes when he gets fussy we sit with him and look at them.

They were super bad until I took the red eye out...it looked pretty freaky.
He is growing so fast! You make him look bigger, Jason makes him look smaller. He's really starting to fill out, it seems. Enjoy those times where he will fall asleep on you. They pass all too quickly. Just today I told Judah I wish sometimes he would go back to the lump-on-a-log stage for just a few minutes -- sometimes because I want to cuddle...other times because I need a break from his energy!

How nice it is to have so many family members to hug, hold and pamper all of you. You all must have been exhausted by the time you got back home.
Aren't Grammies just the most precious thing after the grandkids?
